Current Transit Systems

Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT)

Name: Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT)
URL: http://www.ci.detroit.mi.us/Departments/DetroitDepartmentofTransportation/tabid/80/Default.aspx
Found Using: Google Web Search
Search Query: "Detroit Department of Transportation"
Information Summary/Quote: Bus transportation service provided by the City of Detroit and operating almost exclusively within the boundaries of Detroit. This website provided information on their services, routes, and an occasional service update.
Evaluation: Good resource to explore and learn a bit more about the service that the City of Detroit is operating on its own. Important to note is that service is limited to the City of Detroit and that the only mode of mass transportation offered is bus transit. There is a little on the website about partnerships with SMART.
Misc.: Got the idea to search for "Detroit Department of Transportation" after running a search on Google for public transportation in Southeast Michigan. More about this search can be found on this blog entry.

Suburban Mobility Authority for Rapid Transportation (SMART)

Name: Suburban Mobility Authority for Rapid Transportation (SMART)
URL: http://www.smartbus.org
Found Using: Google Web Search
Search Query: "Suburban Mobility Authority of Rapid Transportation"
Information Summary/Quote: Bus transportation service provided in the Detroit region of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. This website is pretty similar to that of DDOT, including information about their services and routes. It is also a source of information regarding service updates.
Evaluation: This website looks and runs a lot like the service it represents: bad. It is slow, kind of disorganized, and looks like it was designed 10 years ago. I would not recommend visiting this site more than one time to collect information about the basics of the service SMART offers.
Misc: Got the idea to search for "Suburban Mobility Authority for Rapid Transportation" after running a search on Google for public transportation in Southeast Michigan. More about this search can be found on this blog entry.

The Detroit People Mover

Name: The Detroit People Mover
URL: http://www.thepeoplemover.com
Found Using: Google Web Search
Search Query: "Detroit People Mover"
Information Summary/Quote: This is a pretty good website. There is a lot of detailed information about what there is to do at all of the different stations. There is also an interactive map of the system and a blog run by the People Mover all about system updates.
Evaluation: Overall this is a pretty nice website and you will find a lot of information about the People Mover system on it. The blog is a nice feature, but it is not updated very frequently. I would check it once in awhile to see what they've posted. Another good strategy might be to keep your eye on the newspapers and if you hear any DPM related news, check their blog.

Ann Arbor Transit Authority - AATA - The Ride

Name: Ann Arbor Transit Authority
URL: http://www.aata.org
Found Using: Google Web Search
Search Query: ["Ann Arbor" "The Ride"]
Information Summary/Quote: An overview of the system that provides public transportation for the greater Ann Arbor area. A lot of good information about routes and even real-time tracking. This is probably one of the better websites out there for a Southeast Michigan transit system, which is fitting considering this is probably the best system in the area.
Misc: I knew what to search for because I am a rider of the AATA myself.
